Mildew and mold always begin with stains on the wall and followed by the problems, such as paint peeling off, wall bulging, discoloration, and other problems. It not only affects the appearance in the home but also affects our health and belongings. As we know, humid air is the main reason that allows the mold fungus to breed, but actually, the construction and the habit of people are also a big reason.
There are many actions we can take to keep the walls beautiful and clean.
1. Wall Temperature
When the wall temperature is lower than the air temperature, it causes condensation to form on the wall. Therefore, the moisture level of the wall must be handled properly during the construction, for instance: moisture content of the wall, the ply of the wall, heat preservation material and so on. In other words, keep the humidity and temperature of the wall in balance to avoid wall condensation, so as to prevent damp and moldy walls. If have no idea about it, please consult relevant professionals.
2. Check Your Home
Pay attention to drainage pipes in your house. Infiltration of water pipe leakage will lead to dampness inside the wall. Watermarks are a good breeding ground for mildew growth. Additionally, be careful when the wall has a crack, or whether there is a gap between the window frame and wall. Don’t overlook small cracks, which may cause rainwater to seep through and eventually cause damp and moldy walls. Therefore, during the house renovations, we should ensure that the waterproof treatment of the home prevents more troubles in the future.
3. Bleach and Water
If there is signs of mold on the wall, you can prepare bleach and water, in a ratio of 1:99. Spray the mixture evenly over the moldy area and wipe the surface with a clean cloth. Mold and stains can be easily removed. After that, you can apply a layer of mildew – proof paint to your wall to prevent mildew from growing in the future.
4. Ventilation
During the high humidity season, we should pay more attention to indoor ventilation. Keep windows open to allow air to circulate and keep humid air out of your home. If it’s rainy and you can’t always open your windows, you can use an indoor desiccant or dehumidifier to remove moisture. Always check the desiccant and replace it after use.
5. Scrape Off The Walls
Generally, the toilet and Bathroom are the dampest places in our house and readily provide good breeding grounds. The most effective method is to scrape the mold between the tiles, and then use grout to fill the cracks. Clean the mold off the ceilings using water and bleach and apply anti-mildew paint and you’ll have a nice, clean wall again!
During the rainy and humid season, not only the walls household can be affected by mold, such as clothes, wooden furniture, books etc.
